Drivers’ day enjoying Flanders and surroundings

Driving around small charming roads and quicker B-roads showed us the Flanders countryside at its best.

A lunch stop was prepared at a farm en route, serving us with on the spot oven-baked pizza's and soft drinks. From there we went to visit an attraction hardly anyone had experienced before: the waterworks and their facilities at Kluizen north of Ghent! After a guided tour explainging the magic amd miracles of waste water treatment, we were allowed to drive around the giant reservoir lake.

Back at the hotel, a somewhat special dinner was served, which was another adventure of flavors: we enjoyed several delicious small plates all prepared with local specialities and accompanied with specially selected beers made by breweries from the area.

Discovering an amazing location in Wallonia

We had to leave a bit earlier in the morning, hitting the nice roads again to travel South and visit a very special place, quite unique in the world: Mahymobiles in Leuze-en-Hainault. It is actually a motor museum holding one of the biggest car collections you could think of, but only some of them are presented the way you’d expect. All the rest are just stored in the condition there were found. The organisers had arranged another guided tour followed by a tasty lunch.

The roadbook then took us back to the hotel in Aalst. There a buffet – offering a wide choice and even more – was served as the official dinner. As you would have expected, this was a long night …

Let’s meet even more

On the Sunday, we were joined by other members from the MG Car Club Antwerp.

The destination for the day was just down the road from the hotel, the Aalst fire brigade museum. Not only were we presented with an astonishing exhibition of firefighting parapernalia from various decades, we also had a great photo opportunity there.

We were then handed a pick-nick pack and the roadbook sent us along nice quiet roads where we could stop individually for a lunch break: groups of MGs could be seen along the roads for miles.

While one group of the participants said good-bye now, those staying another night were following the roadbook back to the hotel for another evening among friends.
